Whole caraway seeds are used in breads (especially rye bread and kümmelweck rolls), pickles, coleslaw, sauerkraut and soups - we love grinding it slightly with a mortar and pestle and adding to borscht. The caraway plant is part of the carrot family, with similar feathery green leaves.
